I wasn't aware that the cluster stored the vehicle mileage. At most it stores
the trip odo mileage. I know when you get a MP PCM you have to have the VIN and
mileage transferred to the PCM to match your original. When I removed my
cluster (to install whiteface gauges) I lost the trip odo but the vehicle
mileage wasn't affected.

Is the LCD in the 97 cluster compatible with the LED in the 99? I'd be a little
surprised if the interface (pinouts, etc.) was identical.
