RE: 97 Dakota problems again - kinda long

When my dealer attempted to fix my stalling problem upon restart the first
time, they replaced the IAC with a new one. This did not correct the
problem as I had to take it back in for the "mysterious reprogramming of the
computer".

Looks like I spoke too soon on my dealer's latest attempt to fix this
problem as my Dak would fail to hold an idle after I attempted to restart it
last night after parking it for a half an hour. I had just driven the truck
over 30 miles on the highway and parked it to do some shopping. When I came
back to restart it, it would crank up but would fail to idle as it would
just die off when I release the key from the start position to the run
position. I had to use the right foot on gas pedal and left foot on brake
method to keep the engine from stalling in order to shift into gear. After
putting the truck in drive the engine would stay on. This morning the Dak
started right up with no problem. So far these are my symptoms:

- when the engine is cold, the engine will start and stay on with no problem
- restarting a warm engine, the engine would start and die when letting go
of the key.

Is the normal idle for the 98 Dak V6 at 600RPM?
Should the stock fan be spinning when a cold engine is started? I thought
there was a clutch mechanism to turn the fan on and off. I know that the
electric fans get cycled on and off.

My engine mods are a QuickD intake and TB, 180 T-stat, and 3923's. It still
has the stock distributor cap, rotor and plug wires. The truck has 11k
miles on it.

I was going to say the same thing Ron. Sounds like a bad IAC.

Sure sounds like the IAC. Did you guys twist that around or take it out of
the TB or anything?
